Into the 180s by a Hair!

27 Oct

I weighed in dark and early this morning at 189.5 lbs—that’s a 1-lb loss since last week. That’s progress, and a new weight “decade” for me!

magic8ballI’ll be honest: I had gotten used to losing 2 lbs per week, and I’m a little flustered about losing less this past week. But although the human body may resemble a machine, it’s more like a magic 8 ball sometimes. I broke my magic 8 ball back when I was a kid by shaking it too much, now that I think about it!

At any rate, I stuck to my food and exercise plan last week, and I’ll be sticking with it again this week. We’ll see what the scale says next Tuesday morning—as long as I’m still going down by a pound or more per week, I’m not going to mess with what I’m doing.

Like I mentioned above, I’m now into the 180s by just a hair. The 180s is a tricky weight decade for me! I have gotten mired here before, so I am hyper-aware of the perils of despondence, sloth, and impatience that await. My motto for the 180s? Don’t give up. It will be the answer to pretty much any question I ask myself as I work my way down another 10 lbs. Don’t. Give. Up. It’s just not an option at this point.

Congrats on a new decade! I’m jealous – I haven’t hit a new one in about 8 months. I say any week you don’t gain is a victory! Keep up the great work! :)

Thanks, Quix! You’ve hit so many new decades in the last couple years and it totally inspires me. I know you can take it down yet another decade because you definitely have the planning skills and the willpower.

Hilary! Congratulations, this is so exciting! I’ve been reading your other blog for a while and I joined Spark People after you mentioned it, but I find the site a little overwhelming. I have not started my weight loss process really at all, I am still in the planning phase, but I want to get going I just don’t seem to have the initiative to do it. How did you force yourself to jump in?

    • Hilary 28. Oct, 2009 at 3:27 PM #

Hi Janie, SparkPeople is a lot of fun but I can totally understand how it might feel like a bit much at first. If that is something that is holding you back, maybe think about simplifying further to start off your weight loss. Get a small note pad and a calorie counter book (they cost around $7 at the bookstore, I use CalorieKing but there are a bunch of good ones). Rather than tracking on SP starting off, simple stick to your calorie budget by recording everything in the little notebook and adding it up (I’ll admit I used a calculator a couple times, my elementary math teacher would be so disappointed ;). The most important thing in getting started is deciding on a calorie budget and then keeping track of what you’re eating one way or another so that you can stick to the budget with some accuracy. SparkPeople has a lot of great features, such as Success Stories and motivational SparkPages and SparkTeams, but if it’s overwhelming you right now, don’t worry about that. Just keep the focus on your weight loss and your calorie budget.

Okay, that’s just my off-the-top-of-my-head advice, but I’m happy to follow up if you have any other questions!

Hello Hilary. Read about you on Sean’s blog. I’m glad you’ve joined his Weight Loss Superheroes! I started out with sparkpeople too, but drifted away after a bit. I kind of outgrew it, you know? I have lost 62 pounds since May 19th. I’m excited for your progress and am looking forward to following your journey. If you haven’t already I want to recommend you hit up Diane’s site: http://www.fittothefinish.com/blog/
She is one incredible woman. Anyone who has kept 150 pounds off for 10 years deserves a read amiright?
Welcome and big hugs from a woman who is shrinking at an incredible pace!
