Weight Loss

I’ve enacted one component of my Thanksgiving plan already by going above and beyond my usual Monday workout schedule. Today I rode my bike to work and also completed a lunchtime elliptical workout at my office gym. If the weather is nice enough to bicycle tomorrow and Wednesday, I’ll keep up this same routine on those days too.

On a different topic: Why do I still feel antsy on the day before my weigh-in? I haven’t done anything that I would consider “off-plan” during the past week, and yet I feel slightly nervous. Maybe it’s just anticipation—hoping I’ll have another loss to report! I’m very happy about what I’ve accomplished so far, but at the same time I’m anxious to keep the forward momentum going because I want to go so much further with all of this. In another 10 lbs or so, I will be smaller than my boyfriend has ever seen me, and we’ve been together over two and a half years. That’s just wild to me, you know?

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, today I also want to give special heartfelt thanks to a few of the bloggers I read regularly who prove to me it can be done. These are some of the people whose words give me heart and courage when I feel weak:

  • Diane, of Fit to the Finish: Diane lost 150 lbs and has kept it off for 12 years. She is thoughtful, kind, and always interesting and articulate in her perspective on weight loss; and as a successful maintainer, she has tons of credibility as far as I’m concerned!
  • Sean, of Daily Diary of a Winning Loser: Sean, as I’ve noted before, is the guy whose blog initially inspired me to give weight-loss another try! My strategy is very much modeled on his, in that I set a daily calorie “budget” but don’t have any rules about what I can or can’t eat (as long as the food fits in my budget for the day). He has lost well over 200 lbs so far and blogs every single day.
  • Tony, of The Anti-Jared: Another 200-lb loser! Tony has a written style all his own, and his voice has only gotten stronger as he has maintained his weight loss and continued building muscle throughout 2009. He takes a different approach to weight loss than Sean, focusing on eating specific kinds of food and excluding others, and what he does obviously works for him!
  • Foodie McBody, of FoodFoodBodyBody: Foodie’s blog holds a special place in my heart because I started reading it back when I had another blog at the very beginning of this year. During the time when I wasn’t accomplishing much more than navel-gazing, Foodie lost over thirty pounds and reached her goal weight, and became a Weight Watchers leader. She’s a truly caring person and I’m totally jealous of the groups she leads!

I am so thankful for the determination of these people to lose weight and blog about it—their words are a source of encouragement to me when I need it most, and I hope you check them out if you’re not already familiar with them :).

Good job Hilary! You are kicking butt! I’m still feeling pretty rough so I have not worked out, but you’re right, I need to take care of myself and not push too hard. Since I don’t feel up to working out just yet, I’ve been focusing on my food. I’ve been cooking a lot more, tracking my calories and submitting my recipes on sparkpeople to try and get an accurate idea of what I’m eating. Yesterday was day 1 and I feel really proud of myself for sticking to it!

I am committing to tracking my calories daily, but I will give myself a break Thanksgiving afternoon. I will eat a good breakfast and try not to go hogwild at dinner, but I’m not going to beat myself up about it. When Friday comes I will be tracking again. I am committed to following your excellent lead and getting my health back on track:)
