Into the 170s . . . by a hair! This is starting to be a pattern, me inching sneakily into the next weight decade. I am thrilled to have lost 2 lbs over Thanksgiving week, and I also know that I can attribute some of my success to the fact that: 1. I did some extra workouts. 2. I confined my “free meal” to Thanksgiving dinner/dessert itself.
My mission for December? To hit my unofficial short-term goal of 175 lbs by New Year’s Day!
As eating less and moving more becomes slightly routine for me, it is easy for me to forget how much I have accomplished this fall. One day merges seamlessly into the next as the holiday season starts to fly by, and one workout blends into the next. I am going to take a minute to be proud of myself and my consistency with my weight-loss program right now. Here are a few things on my mind related to my journey so far:
- I am almost down into the “regular” stores XL sizes. In less than 20 lbs, I should be able to walk into most shops and find something that fits me.
- During a time of year when I often gain weight, I have lost over 23 lbs.
- In less than 15 lbs, I will be “overweight” and not “obese.”
- I’m actually looking forward to getting the blood work results back from a recent doctor’s visit; when she took my blood pressure that day, the nurse commented that it was “excellent.” I think the workouts are doing me lots of good, beyond just dropping the pounds!
- I have gotten multiple opportunities to prove to myself that I can be flexible during this process. I’m better at being flexible when it comes to exercise (for example, I started biking and using the elliptical when I injured myself jogging), but still need practice dealing with eating in a social atmosphere (I can do it, but find it pretty stressful).
- My boyfriend can tell the physical difference in me, but I don’t believe anyone else has picked up on it yet. This makes me realize how heavy I had gotten, that losing over 20 lbs still isn’t noticeable on me to the casual acquaintance.
- I’m having pants frustration! I’m an apple shape, with legs that are much leaner than my belly area, so pants just fit me weirdly. The jeans in my Christmas card photo look baggy on my legs but fit in the stomach, for instance. I’m not quite able to go another size down yet because of the stomach issue.
- I stuck to my Thanksgiving plan successfully! I had a free meal but got right back on plan afterward. This is going to be my plan for Christmas dinner, too.
December is here and I am prepared to keep doing what it takes to lose this extra weight. Maybe I can hit the 25-lbs-lost mark by my next weigh-in! I’ll keep you posted.

Wow, you really are an inspiration for all us weight loss bloggers! I like your eating philosophy too. It’s better to eat a little of what you like than to try to be perfect.

Hi Carla, thanks for stopping by! I think everyone is different, but this way of eating has definitely worked for me so far :).

Holy moley, you are rockin’ this thing woman! Look at that consistency! I am totally rooting for you to hit 175 by NYE, but I bet you’ll pass that no problem! I like exclamation marks! :)

Quix: Thanks for rooting for me! My weight loss seems to have fallen into a pattern of 1.5 lbs and sometimes 2 lbs a week, so if I can keep that up, I’ll be all good for my New Year’s Goal :).

Congratulations!
I know what you mean about pants fit, though I have heavier thighs so I have to size up to fit them, and then I have a gap in the waistband of a lot of pants. My guess is that it’s hard to find jeans that are just right, no matter what your size or build.
I love your attitude and your Christmas pics look great.

Jen: Hmm, maybe the pants/jean thing is just a big conspiracy to piss women off! Seriously. (Thank you for the Xmas pic compliment, by the way! Hope my family likes ‘em.)

I’m new to the blog so my apologies for commenting on an older post. I wouldn’t feel too bad about people not noticing a 20 pound difference. I was at 390 and I didn’t have one person (other than immediate family) comment on my weight loss until I hit about 330. So weird!
