Last weekend I added a few new rewards to my list:
- 50 lbs lost–open LARGE box of “skinny clothes”
- 65 lbs lost–open MEDIUM box of “skinny clothes”
- 78 lbs lost (GOAL!)–open SMALL box of “skinny clothes”
You may or may not be able to relate, but the “skinny clothes” are clothing of various smaller sizes that I have saved from the past decade. Over the years, as I moved multiple times and grew less hopeful about losing weight, this collection was whittled down to one large box of favored or essential items that I could no longer fit into.
On Sunday I hauled out that big hodge-podge box and separated the clothes out into three separate piles: the large skinny clothes (sizes 10/12, L/XL), the medium skinny clothes (size 8, M/L), and the small skinny clothes (sizes 5/6, S/M). Now I have them boxed up into three different boxes, ready to open when I hit the appropriate milestones.
Do you have any smaller clothing from days of yore lying in wait for you?

You are doing so well with your program and your happiness is contagious! Congratulations! Regarding the question of saving smaller clothing, I have over the years saved two pairs of jeans – one pair I consider my skinny jeans (meaning I have to be very thin to wear them) and the other pair I refer to as my holy grail jeans, which are one size smaller than anything I’ve been able to wear in the last 20 years. Don’t ask me what I was thinking when I bought them, I really don’t know. I don’t even like the jeans any more but every so often I try them on to see how I’m doing.

Oh yes, I certainly do. I have some really cute sleeveless tops that I long to wear. I refuse to get rid of them because I want to keep the hope alive that I will reach that day!
Years ago when I lost 75 pounds I got rid of my “fat” clothes. When I went through them I cried because those clothes meant comfort and I thought they covered up all my flaws. Once I had given them to our local mission it was a good feeling.

I’m a stay-at-home mom now, but I still have three different sizes of work clothes “just in case” I go back to work and “just in case” I gain back the weight I lost!

I have a couple of boxes of skinny clothes. Most of them are summery/casual things. It’s so much more fun shopping when I’m thinner so I don’t mind if I have to buy some new things once I get to goal.

My cloest is filled with skinny clothes! I used to have a great wardrobe and all of those clothes are sitting there waiting on me. Since I have gained weight I have stopped shopping, it used to be something I loved to do. So now, I have a very small number of outfits that actually fit me and an enormous amount of skinny clothes. I used to feel like I would never get back into them, but now I know I will. You are spurring me on Hilary! :)

Hey Hilary!
As a matter of fact, I DID! Mostly, mine was about “jeans.” I had jeans that ranged in size from 24 down to about a 14 (and old-school 14) — Think: peg leg, pleated, acid washed and you’d be getting close. I actually blogged about my excitement of moving through that big ol pile ‘o jeans as I lost my weight. What an incredible journey and a great feeling. Oh, that bucket doesn’t contain jeans anymore; now it contains seasonal clothes which will actually FIT me next season. Congrats to you on your great work! I am proud of you for losing during the holidays. That’s amazing!

Usually when I have an article of clothing that no longer fits it gets tucked in the back of my closet until I have a yard sale or go through and donate to Goodwill. So, I’ve gotten rid of *most* of what I would call my skinny clothes (although, the skinniest size I think I’ve been as an adult is an 18 – not really “skinny”, huh?) I do have a few articles of clothing that are too small to fit – I’m gonna have to pull them out soon I think because my clothes are really fitting soooo loose now.

I did. But I was overweight for so long that by the time I could actually wear them they were woefully out of style. It was still fun to try them on and realize that some of my skinnier “past” clothes were actually too big!
You are doing great – keep up the good work!

I’ll echo the “out of style” for a lot of things, but for each 5 things I kept that I fit into and then gave away, there’s 1 that looks great on me and I wear it all the time. My body has changed a lot since I was about 16 – I have much bigger shoulders now (all those traveling pushups I guess) so I have lots of dresses that fit everywhere else but won’t zip over my bulky back muscles.
It’s always fun to go through them though! Hey, you might end up with a great Halloween costume! =)

Oh yes! I just fit into my GAP jeans from 2 kids ago! Oh, what a feeling! hehehe.

I do! Sometimes when I go shopping, I think to myself, I can just wear my tummy sucker undies and this will look ok! By the time I get everything on, it looks horrid.
So, I have a drawer full of cute shirts, but this dang fat roll has to GO!
