My 25-lb Milestone

Weigh-ins

Today I weighed in at 178 lbs, showing a loss of 1.5 lbs for the past week and an overall loss of 25 lbs! That’s right, I hit my next mini-milestone and reward! A spa-quality manicure, pedicure, and eyebrow-shaping appointment has been booked for the afternoon of December 22. I can’t wait to be pampered with Aveda products.

I have established a fairly regular pattern of losing 1.5 or 2 lbs per week over the last month or so. It’s considered a healthy rate of weight loss, and the progress is still rapid enough to be very gratifying to someone early in her weight-loss journey.

My goal weight is somewhere around 125 lbs. I still have over 50 lbs left to lose, yet I’ve definitely made a major dent in the extra weight I’ve been lugging around. Sometimes I wonder if it would be healthier to have a body-fat-percentage goal rather than a traditional weight-loss goal that doesn’t take into account body composition. It sort of goes along with one of my issues with The Biggest Loser (yes, I will be watching the finale tonight, in case you’re wondering): I wish the show focused more on body fat percentage and/or body composition than just pounds lost, because lbs lost can be lean body mass or water, not just fat. And the excess fat on our frames is really what the problem is, right?

This is a challenging time of year to be pursuing weight loss. Challenging, but not impossible. I have already navigated several holiday meals and one office luncheon, and the end of the season won’t be in sight for over three weeks. My worry is that the barrage of food-related occasions will wear me down, despite the fact that I’ve handled everything successfully up to this point and stuck to my plan. M and I will be visiting my family up North for almost a week in late December, and I am prepping myself to stay on track during that time (I’m used to considering all travel time as an excuse for eating free-for-alls).

I’ve had to adapt my workout times in order to accommodate unusual scheduling situations twice this week already, and while it’s not my favorite thing, it is doable. It does require forethought though. Making a concrete plan for challenging days has saved me multiple times from making unwise choices.

Only 3 lbs to go in order for me to reach my New Year’s Day mini-goal of weighing 175 lbs. Can I do it?! I will do it!

WOW you must feel amazing! 178 when I think of that number I am a wee bit jealous. I would love to be there already but I know time. However time flies, right? You will hit your goals before you know it.

Great idea with the mini-spa day reward. I think I might come up with something similar for when I finally make my 5% at WW — maybe that will motivate me to get moving.
