Weigh-ins

175 lbs!

That’s what the scale read this morning, and this means I have hit my unofficial New Year’s Day goal a week ahead of schedule. I’ll certainly be on my guard to keep the scale from climbing in the wrong direction when M and I (and the Bean) fly up north on Thursday morning to spend six festive days with my parents and youngest sister! I probably won’t weigh in next Tuesday, since I’ll still be out of town. Instead, you can expect to see a “New Year’s Eve Day Weigh-in” next Thursday.

A quick rehash of the past week: I was knocked down flat with a hideous cold starting Wednesday and didn’t really start to feel remotely human again until late in the weekend. Some of the symptoms continue to linger, but I’m definitely feeling much better. Today was the first day I tried any exercise at all since last Tuesday. The Bean and I headed out for a half-hour neighborhood walk, which was a nice, laid-back way to get back into physical activity.

I was really amazed that I lost 2 lbs over the week despite my lack of exercise. I will say that I stuck to my food tracking and calorie budget even on the days I was feeling absolutely horrible, blowing my nose constantly and half-comatose from cold meds. So by doing what I could, which was watch out for my food intake, I ended up losing weight just fine this past week despite my morose predictions that I would stall out on the scale due to enforced bed rest!

In a way I am boring. I stick to my unexotic plan faithfully, and I’m fortunate to find it consistently working well for me, week after week. I weigh 175 lbs today; my goal weight is around 125 lbs. Fifty pounds to go!

Congratulations. Keep at it. I, too, am on a diet with lots of weight to lose, so I did a search and found your blog. You inspire me. I have lost 40lbs in exactly 3 months, but I have more to go. We can do it, right?

    Congratulations!

If I may say so, boring is totally alright. You’re doing what works for you, and – in the end – that’s the program that will get you to your goal.

    Hilary,

You are inspiring overall–you are particularly inspiring me. Reading you is having a wonderful effect on my efforts. You’er not being nutty on some trendy “deny-yourself this, that or everything” but sticking to a sane and tailored-to-you by you food plan (and hanging in through illness, depression, holiday’s and the vissisitudes of life, and it is somehow helping me control my eating and not giving in to the “I’m feeling sorry for myself” cookies.

Right now I have very little control over what I eat, not how much but what. I broke my ankle and the opposite hip in November and, until yesterday, was not able to do anything except wait for both bones to heal so I could begin to learn to walk again. They bring me food, over which I have no choice, but I am choosing to eat lightly and sticking to the protein and veggies.

Your sucess is inspiring me. Please keep it up and CONGRATULATIONS!

You are giving yourself (and me, among others), the best possible holiday gifts. To say Thank You, I donated $50, in your name, to a micro-loan program (Kiva) to help a family start a business that will provide them with a livelihood for the future. THANK YOU.

      Shanna,

This means the world to me, and I’m so proud of you for doing what you can to take good care of yourself as you recover from your injuries! (I do hope they are healing well.) This journey is all about doing what we can where we’re at, and it sounds like you are living that!

Also, I am honored that you made a donation to Kiva for me—from what I know it’s a wonderful program! Happy holidays and thank you for supporting me here :).

      Sincerely,
      Hilary
