Weight Loss

Thanks to Josie for tagging me to play the Happy 101 game!

The object of this exercise is to list 10 things (as opposed to people—so no listing family and friends) that make me happy, and since this is a weight-loss blog, I’m going to primarily foucs on things involved in that area of my life.

    • SparkPeople.com. This website has helped make tracking my calories relatively easy, and their recent iPhone app was a lifesaver for me when I was out of town and tracking my food. Additionally, their recent bootcamp challenge inspired me to finally take some action in the realm of strength training.
    • My new running/walking shoes. I wear Brooks Adrenalines, and for me and my feet, they have been a great choice. I let my previous pair get kind of run down, unfortunately, but they were recently replaced and the new pair feel wonderfully supportive and awesome.
    • My sports watch from Target. Simple, relatively inexpensive, and does intervals, which is great if you are doing a walk/jog program and need something that will beep at the end of each walk or run interval.
    • My new necklace, one of my weight loss mini-rewards.
    • My New Wardrobe Fund. I just started the fund this month, but I am setting aside a little money each pay period between now and whenever I reach my goal weight so that I can splurge on clothes a little once I’ve lost all my extra weight.
    • Discovering new blogs that inspire me! I recently came across Anonymous Fat Girl‘s site and I am loving it—check it out!
    • January health/fitness magazines. They tend to have extra success stories and motivational articles, and I’ll take all that I can get of both of those.
    • Clementines. My favorite little orange fruit! Their season is almost at an end, I believe, but they always make winter a little brighter and tastier while they are around.
    • My stability ball. I’ve been doing some exercises with it as part of my strength training exploration, and it definitely works my core muscles. Bonus: Today I fell off of it and just started laughing because there is something sublimely ridiculous about rolling around on the floor with a giant rubber ball.
    • Awesome protein suggestions from my readers! I’m compiling them into a list as soon as I can.

Hilary you are so sweet! Thank you for mentioning my site. I really enjoy reading yours too. :)

I’ve never heard of Brooks Adrenalines before. I need to check that out. And I’ve never thought about setting up a wardrobe fund. What a great idea! I cannot wait until I can buy some new clothes. I’m to the point where my underwear are getting big (ha ha!) but I want to get down to another pants size and that would be a great thing to have set aside. Thanks for the ideas!

AFG, thank *you* for writing such an awesome blog—it was my pleasure to give you a shout out. The Brooks Adrenalines work well for me, as a heavier walker/jogger with some pronation tendencies. The best way to find your perfect shoe is always to go to an actual running store, where they will look at your feet and watch you walk before they recommend any products. That’s how I got hooked up with my Brooks’ ;).

I really need to do that. I’ve read a couple other bloggers that have went to one of those types of stores where they measure your stride and gait and all kinds of stuff and then fit you with a good pair of shoes. I need to find out where I can do this. I live in northern Michigan and I don’t know of any stores that have this close by. But I think it’s worth a trip. I have big feet. Size 11 clod-hoppers. I struggle to find comfy shoes that don’t look ridiculous. :)

What a great list! The watch you have looks like exactly what I need. I want to do a walk/run program and could use something that would beep for my intervals. I’m going to check this out when I have a little extra money. I can’t wait for your protein list too, this is also something I need more of!
